The View From The Lab #3 October 2016

“Summer’s gone, nights growing colder…”

Blimey ! It’s been a bit quiet around The Lab recently, hasn’t it ? We’d like to tell that we’ve been hobnobbing around the world, seeking out the finest tunes, going to all the coolest parties, attending the greatest gigs (and aftershows) but the truth is… well there HAS been a bit of that, but not so as you’d notice.

Anyway, as we head into the inevitable graceful downward glide to Xmas and New Year, we thought it was about time we made contact. So onward to the rest of the newsletter….

Purveyors of quintessentially English story telling Prog, Kaprekar’s Constant are joining forces with Uranium Club for the release of their debut album “Fear Outsmarts Desire”.

The band is the brainchild of lifelong friends Nick Jefferson and Al Nicholson. They have done a number of musical projects together over the years, the culmination of which is Kaprekar’s Constant.

No bedroom project this though – Nick and Al are joined by an ensemble cast, featuring Phil Gould, founder member and ex-drummer of Level 42, top TV and film composer/producer Mike Westergaard and legendary Van Der Graaf Generator sax and woodwind maestro, David Jackson.

That’s only bloody DAVID JACKSON !!!

We don’t want to give away too much about the album right now, but suffice to say it will put a bustle in your hedgerow and some steam in your Engine ! 🙂 Expected release is Spring 2017 and we’ll be sure to bring you Uranium Clubber’s the inside line on here album and some exclusive content further down the line.

And finally…

We’re really interested to hear any feedback from you and ideas about what you want to see from Uranium Club. We’d especially like to hear from anyone who purchased the box set of Discontinuance to see how you’re getting on with them. It’s part of our “thing” so we want to make sure that we know how they’ve been received and any improvements we can make. You can write to us directly at

Also let us know if you come across any bands and artists who you think are worth a look – as we know, the best recommendations come through word of mouth. And on that score, here’s our October playlist – enjoy !

Cheers for now, and here’s looking forward to the next time !!
